In cold environments, the Airtac 4V210-08 can face a silent killer: internal ice formation. When compressed air expands, it drops in temperature, causing moisture to freeze inside the pilot port.
1. The Pilot Port Risk
Because the 4V210-08 uses a tiny internal pilot hole to shift the spool, even a microscopic ice crystal can block the signal. This leads to the valve "freezing" in one position despite the coil being energized.
2. Prevention Strategies
- Point-of-Use Dryers: Ensure your air is treated to a dew point below your ambient temperature.
- Trace Heating: In extreme cases, use electrical heating tape on the manifold to keep the 4V210-08 body above 5°C.
- Alcohol Injection: Use a specialized lubricator to mist a small amount of pneumatic anti-freeze into the line.
